So major

As so often happens, I am out of inspiration. Thankfully, I got the idea to do a post about Rachel Zoe whom I thought of when I noticed that there were no more episodes of her show on my Tivo. So yeah.
While I know that some people dislike her for different reasons, I can tell you one thing: she's one hell of a stylist. The best I've ever seen so far. I'll admit that her "choice of words" and her silly expressions can be quite obnoxious (particularly when she repeats the same one a hundred times, "I die, I die, I die"), and that it makes me cringe when she makes everything sound like the apocalypse if a dress gets lost. That verges on the ridiculous when clearly there are more important things then a stained dress. Aside from that, she's really very good at what she does, and THAT my friends, you can't deny. When you see Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson or Demi Moore parading down the red carpet with the most ravishing and envious dresses, who do you think picked them? yes, that's right, Her. And sure, it's not the worst job in the world (obviously), but don't think for a second that she doesn't work her butt off. She actually worked to get to where she's now (unlike some Hollywood princesses), so let's give her some credit shall we?
The picture quality isn't very good so, sorry about that. I think you'll be able to read some of the ones taken from InStyle magazine, the others, not quite.

Galette des rois à la frangipane

Baked a "galette des rois" today (well actually my mum did but I helped), it's a French holiday cake made with layers of flaky puff pastry and with a dense center of frangipane, a creamy almond-flavored filling. Let me tell you, if you bake this for your family on Christmas, you'll get more presents, I'm serious. It's a French recipe that I'll try to translate as best as possible. This cake is a big part of Christmas festivities in France but I'm not going to go through its cultural importance today because it's boring, however you should know that traditionally, you have to hide a little figurine inside the cake, whether it be a car, a crown or a cartoon character; whatever floats your boat. Whoever finds the ornament in their slice gets to be king for the day. So yes, it's a fun cake, especially if you're tired of the same holiday traditions and want to switch it up a bit.
As I said before, I'm going to try to walk you through the recipe as best as I can. It's really very simple so don't stress; if I can do it you can too.

First you'll need:
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry
  • 3-4 medium eggs
  • 100 g ground almonds (3.5 oz)
  • 70 g softened butter (2.5 oz)
  • 150 g sugar (3.5 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon rum or kirsch (but you don't need that)small ornament of your choice
1. Make the frangipane: take your almonds and boil them until they are soft and chewy, you can taste one, just try not to burn yourself! Put them in a colander, wait for them to cool off a little bit and you can start peeling them. Once you've peeled them all, you can roast them a little bit (but that's not necessary) and then grind them in a food processor until they're in bits. Don't over-grind them. Beat 1 whole egg and an egg white with the almond powder,
adding the butter and sugar. Keep the yellow to brown patty. Then, add the flour and the
alcohol. Again, the rum (or kirsch) is optional.
2. Unroll the puff pastry on a baking sheet, spread the almond mixture on top of it and drop
your little ornament wherever you want it to be.
3. Cover the cake with the second pastry sheet. Make sure you patch the edges of the top and
lower sheets together so no air gets in the cake. You can do that with water or with egg yolks.
By the way, if you have bits of puff pastry left you can use them as decoration on the cake,
have funnnnnnn.
4. Brush the top of the cake with two egg yolks using a brush. Bake 20 to 25 minutes in preheated oven to 200 ° C - 350 ° C.
You can eat it warm or cold but I'm always so impatient that I have to have it as soon as it's out of the oven!

Bon appétit!

homes and kleptomania

  Photos from lonnymag.com

I've always liked to look at other people's houses and decoration; I don't know if that's weird or unusual but I find it really exciting.
No apologies, I love those TV shows where they tear down insipid homes to build new and deliciously flashy ones. Actually I love all sorts of TV shows, except those really pointless ones like the Jersey Shore etc. My MTV phase is long gone, and thank god for that. But yes, I do love home decoration. Whenever my parents get IKEA catalogs in the mail I'm the first one to read them, I eat them up like tasty little broccolis. Kidding. More like decadent brownies. I've also developed a habit of stealing magazines whenever I'm in the waiting room at the doctors' office, which isn't very often because God blessed me with such unbeatable health. My mother only allows me to steal the home decoration magazines because she wants to read them too. It's a good deal really, but if someone has to take the fall for the stolen magazines it'll be me! And can anyone blame me? Doctors are always late; they make you wait in awkward rooms with outdated wallpapers, old people and bored housewives whose kids have lice. Those bastards! And they expect us not to commit a crime of some sort.
I now realize that I've diverged into a completely different subject, my first thoughts being about home decoration and my last being about my kleptomaniac tendencies.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoy them. I'm already getting ideas for the bang-on loft I'll hopefully have in the future.

Sublime innocence! Do you know the rules?

Bought the perfume below at Zara the other day and it smells so unbelievably good. It smells like clean linens, flowers and like rich people who wear light green polos. So I gave it five cheesy little hearts.
