my old friend

I can honestly say that Lisbon is and will always be my favourite place in the world. And I say this knowing that I haven't visited every city in the world.
Sorry for the lack of updated folks! I'm never in one place long enough to edit pictures and write things on this little blog (although I use Instagram a lot) but I've promised myself to try to keep this baby runnin'!
My life here consists of going out, taking long walks in the city, window-shopping with my peeps, eating at the most delicious restaurants and overall just having fun. It's the good life!
Lisbon looks gorgeous when the sun is setting. The other day I went to the Baixa, downtown, and the light looks so perfect falling on this old city. The air here is absolutely amazing, the streets just have such a comforting smell. Hard to explain!
It's fortunately not as cold here as in the States and I'm so happy I don't have to walk around with layers and layers of sweaters.

How was your Christmas?! Mine was pretty fabulousssssssssss.
Happy holidays people!

quick update

Well hellooooo! I feel like I haven't updated this blog in years.
Portugal makes time fly.
I got here last Saturday afternoon and what do you do after a 17 hour trip? YOU.GO.OUT.
I was a little jet lagged but nothing crazy, I think the excitement of being here just makes it disappear.
I've been running around everywhere and staying at Franny's house which is one of my favourite places in the WORLD. Franny's also one of my favourite people in the world.
I come here every single summer and it's just one of those houses that bring back so many splendid memories. It's almost 10 o'clock here and we're having a dinner party with some friends SO I'll have to get off my butt and join the fiesta!

Happy Holidays!

packing and -soon- leaving on a jetplane!

Hello hello hello! THE day has arrived. I've never had such a hard time packing in my life; my suitcase weighs 25 kg, aka 50 pounds or so and half of what I'm bringing with me are gifts. Pray that they don't make me pay for the extra kgs at the airport.

I still have some things to take care of before I leave SO I will leave you with this breathtaking video.
It sends shivers down my spine!

oh just an amazing blogger

Photobucket

Hello Lula's LOVELY readers! I am super excited to be guest posting today. I absolutely LOVE Lula and her blog! (She even designed my blog- which you guessed it, I LOVE! haha!) It's definitely a favorite read of mine. My name is Gentri and I blog over at Gentri Lee. Today I'm going to share a little about me and what I like to blog about... I am a mountain girl. Born and raised. I could live anywhere in the world- as long as I was surrounded by mountains. I love the peace and security they bring. Plus they're beautiful and I could stare at them all day long.

I make it a point to enjoy the small and simple things in life. Those moments are so fleeting and it's important that we take the time to enjoy those little things that make life beautiful. Brightly colored ballons, a "Thank You" card, freshly grown vegetables, cozy slippers, a beautiful sunset. These are my favorite things in life and I love to share them with my readers.

Photobucket

I also love sharing all of the adventures I encounter. I love coming up with new ways to make my day special. Whether it's eating at a new restaurant or rock climbing (something I swore I would never do). I'm even hoping to be brave enough to snow shoe this winter... Cross your fingers that I make it out alive. (I hear it's really hard)

And what kind of blogger would I be without sharing my favorite trends and fashion finds, as well as some DIY's and recipes?

One of my favorite parts of blogging would be how inspired I feel after spending some time reading all the lovely posts that you put together. I love making new bloggy friends and I would love for you to come stop by my blog sometime and say hi! Thank you so much Lula for letting me guest post, and thank you all for reading this! Love, Gentri

this is how I feel

Let's vent a little, shall we? Or rather, let ME vent a little. These last days have been mighty, powerfully stressful. I'm usually never one to stress out about things too much, I just have this good (and bad) way of channeling stress into something else. I don't really tell myself to do it, it just happens naturally, which is honestly kind of nice.  But lately. Oyyyy. These nerves have gotten the best of me. I definitely feel the pressure at school with finals and last projects and even though I'm 120% dedicated to what I do, I kind of want to tear my hair out.
The other night at two in the morning I was working on a graphic design project (which, by the way, I had been working on for about four hours) and all of a sudden, kaboom. My kind of apocalypse:  Photoshop dies. Photoshop doesn't auto save. Photoshop lost all my work. It hurts. I went into angry Hulk mode/hormonal pregnant woman for an hour and was this close to throwing my computer in the toilet. But that would've been awkward.
I had to re-do all my work but it wasn't as good as my first batch of designs which really drove me insane. I woke up the next morning with swollen eyes, still feeling completely frustrated AND nervous about other classes. Let me just tell you, I went through my highschool years like a breeze, just 'chillen' most of the time.. So these kind of nerves are NOT easy to deal with. I just feel like going to the vet and ask for horse tranquilizers. Or throw back one or two or five tequila shots. And just so you know, I don't own any horses.
I thought my 11-hour day at school would only get worse but it took a surprisingly happy turn with a few little things.

  1. Tweeting about my bouncy stress levels (I'm officially that kind of Tweeter,ew) and getting nice and funny replies from some badass ladies; Liz from SRSLYLIZ, Elise from Blowfish Shoes, Alivia from Brunch in April and Eliesa from Good Day, Sunshine .
  2. Taking a gingerbread latte break. I do like you sometimes, Starbucks.
  3. Getting the best compliment ever from my graphic design teacher that meant the absolute world to me. I'm still giggling about that. Five days later.
  4. Opening an email from a lovely girl saying that her Christmas present was going to be a blog design done by me. Didn't that make me shed a tear or two.
  5. And then just thinking of my trip to Lisbon (which is THIS FRIDAY) and how I'll get to see all my best friends and family and how lucky I am to be able to do so! Wooooo.

Stress = pshhh, what are you talking about. Gone with the wind.

Point of my story = I'm still stressed.

Kidding. I do, however, have absolutely no idea how in this world I'll have time to pack and not forget things. God help me. I'm going to turn my bedroom upside down. Updates on Instagram.

The cheesy (but honest) point I'm trying to make is that you might think you're having the worst day ever (although mine was in NO way a tragedy) but you'll most likely have good things to be happy about.
Just measure it in inches.
Plus, Frankie did say "relax", so... do it.

Cheers!

chiffon skirt and a little trip to the museum

Last Friday my mom and I went to the National Gallery of Art in D.C for an art history assignment.
I went straight for the Andy Warhol exhibition (naturally) which I found surprisingly and disappointingly very "mehhh".
The Impressionist exhibition was absolutely amazing though. I'm a big BIG fan of Impressionism, Renoir, Monet and Degas being my favourite painters.

There's this beautiful light tunnel that connects the East Building to the West Building and I kind of wondered whether I was going to see Jesus or Cézanne paintings.

And then we had lunch at Merzi, this Indian food joint on 7th Street. Spicy!

Last minute holiday gift guide!

Just a quick list I put together of things that can make fun holiday gifts, not necessarily these exact items but you get the point! Forgot to do the Men gifts, but then again, it's not fun to shop for boys.
