at the hospital

Photobucket

I mentioned in this post that I had an ear infection and what do you know, I went to the hospital for it. Some of you may know this but I'm never sick, I never break anything; I'm basically a rock. I can't believe an ear infection got me.
Yesterday my mom took me to the emergency room, something I thought I'd never say, because I was in so much pain. My infection's so huge that I can't close my jaw properly, or even walk normally because it's like someone's playing drums in my ears.
The doctors had my ear "vacuumed". Strange experience I tell ya. Then they stuck a tube in there so that my ear drops could actually make it inside my ear. Oh and they gave me enough painkillers to kill a horse. I'm always amazed at how easily American doctors give you pain medicine. I mean, God knows I needed them BUT still. The dose they gave me was so enormous that I threw up for a good five hours. So. That was fun.

Anyway, I've been treated like a princess which is the only good thing when you're sick.
I'm grateful for my dad who built me a heating pad out of an old and strange liquor bottle and two pairs of airplanes socks. I was going to say that he "improvised" it but this is actually his regular way of doing things, you should see what the man does with wood. He's handy like that. Bet you he could be on one of those Discovery Channel programs where men are left to survive in the Himalayas or something.
So I slept with this unusual heating pad on my ear but eventually, the heat faded away so I had to remove the two layers of socks to get that last bit of heat directly from the bottle.
In the morning I looked like Jack Sparrow. Diagonally laid on my bed with socks as gloves, greasy hair with my face pressed up against an old liquor bottle. Oh and not to mention that the night before I'd gotten bored and decided to try to look like Green Day's lead singer, aka putting 3 kilos of eye makeup. That really topped the whole Jack Sparrow look.

Ear infections are terrible things! I used to get them all the time and I still do, each time I get strep throat (which is several times a year). I hope you get better soon!

Crazy that you can take beautiful pictures and blog in such a state. You're much tougher then I am.

Feel better soon. Before I had my sinus surgery I had horrible ear pain. I had so much pressure in my ears -- it hurt so bad. Feel better soon!! Blessings for a speedy recovery!

Hope you get better soon - even though you are ill, you still manage to take photographs!

Ear vacuuming does not sound pleasant - I'm sure my mum had that when she had a terrible ear problem. Eek.

Oh dear. Hope you feel better soon!! :(
On another note-- I did the same hot water bottle trick in Namibia when I couldn't get a heating pad for cramps. Works like a charm (til the water gets cold)!

I am so sorry!!! I have ear infections quite often, really bad ones, but never this bad. I hope you feel better soon! :( By the way, my family swears by either tea tree oil in the ear, or garlic oil. If you have an infection, it's quite painful, but helps a lot!
